Created in cooperation with Ciclo di Spettacoli Classici festival in Vicenza and Change PerformingArts.
Curator: Lech Stangret
Lets The Artists Die, deriving it’s title from the famous theatrical piece created by Tadeusz Kantor, is an exhibition presented in Vicenza, on the occasion of the 71st edition of Ciclo di Spettacoli Classici festival in Vicenza.
This show provides a unique possibility to explore the esthetics and working style of Tadeusz Kantor, by bringing together the artist’s drawings, sketches and notes as well as the video recordings his theatrical spectacles. The works, presented in the exhibition in AB23, include over 100 drawings made by the artist from 1937 to 1990, most of which regard the ground-breaking theatre performances, such as: The Dead Class (1975), Wielopole, Wielopole (1980), Lets The Artists Die (1985).
The drawing was always with Kantor – both as a sketch for theatre or paining, and as a way for making notes, in life. These are often notations of the first ideas, designs, spatial arrangements of a scene and technical solutions. They worked as a way of developing and testing ideas, until they finally reached, or not, being used on a stage. Other drawing are autonomous artworks, yet in the same unique style.

PRESS MATERIALS in English
The project is supported by Ministry of Culture and National Heritage on the Republic of Poland and Instituto Polacco Roma.
